Answering a query recently,
from my files in the ELDER DNA project:

RE: ISLES of SCOTLAND ORIGINS - possible location for ELDER of "PAXTANG PA"
Found "MacDONALD" and "PAXTANG PA" matching
in Haplogroup "I2b1" (Isles, Scots, Viking) in I-M223 SNP STUDY.
at
https://www.familytreedna.com/public/M223-Y-Clan?iframe=yresults

Ancestry of Roderick MacDONALD, (I2b1= Isles/Scot/Viking I-M223),
b. 1770 on ISLE OF CANNA  (Inner Hebrides) County of Inverness-shire.
Google Map shows ISLE OF CANNA with ferry crossing to
MALLAIG on MAINLAND (2 1/2 hours) and then distance to MALLAIG from Glasgow (10 hours, 208 miles)

MALLAIG (Inverness-shire) is an important ferry port and there are
regular Caledonian MacBrayne ferry services to Armadale on the Isle of Skye, a thirty minute sailing.
The West Highland Line links Mallaig railway station by rail to
Fort William, Oban and Glasgow

A different ELDER DNA line with Haplogroup "R-M269"
is nearby on the Isle of Skye:

JESSE ELDER on WikiTree.com

ELDER DNA notes for Wikitree.com researchers, posted
at
https://www.WikiTree.com/wiki/Elder-209

Tracing Wayne Arthur ELDER to JESSE ELDER
Jesse T Elder, 1788–1859
Birth 1788 North Carolina, USA
Death 16 SEP 1859 Pulaski, Kentucky, USA

However, descendants' Y-DNA of this JESSE have not matched
"PETER ELDER OF VIRGINIA" (Scottish) Y-DNA categories
which many expected.
JESSE's ancestry entries of Y-DNA kits
   #17290, #13301, #457006, #N201884,
matching DNA under a different Haplogroup:
   "E1b1b1" (may be German),
found on ELDER Y-DNA RESULTS CHART
at
https://www.familytreedna.com/public/Elder?iframe=yresults

"PETER ELDER of VA" descendants' DNA found in Haplogroup "R1b1"
So JESSE cannot be related to "PETER ELDER" by paternal (male) lines.  Researchers are looking for JESSE's actual father.

Jesse ELDER (1788 NC - 1859 Pulaski Co KY)

Several "PETER ELDER" researchers are now hoping to solve the
mystery about parents of Jesse ELDER, who was said to be grandson of
PETER ELDER, often included in their paternal lists.
However, descendants of Jesse now show Y-DNA results
with "E" Haplogroup, possibly German DNA,

not matching any "PETER ELDER" kits.
One theory says Jesse may have been a maternal grandson.
We are still trying to find his parents.
Now have 3 Y-DNA kits with early ancestor descriptions:
"Grandfather Peter's will places Jesse in William Elder's charge"
Citation: Jesse Elder b. 1788 NC d. 16-SEP-1859 Pulaski Co, KY
for 3 kits:
1. kit #457006 Jesse Elder (b.1788 NC) grandson of Peter Elder
    13 24 13 10 16-18 11 12 11 13 11 30
2. kit #17290 Jesse Elder ( b.1788 NC) grandson of Peter Elder
    13 24 13 10 16-18 11 12 12 13 11 30
3. kit # 13301 Jesse Elder b 1788 Surry Co, NC -Grandson of Peter
    13 24 13 10 16-18 11 12 12 13 11 30

Viewing each column for comparing with "PETER ELDER" DNA category,
Finding 8 markers different out of 12, from all "PETER ELDER" kits.
"PETER ELDER" kits show these markers:
13 23 14 11 11-14 12 12 12 14 13 30

Markers: 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 10th, 11th are different for JESSE.
Still looking for Jesse's father.
