    ELDER.
      The 'elder,' signifying the elder of two bearing the same forename.
    John Eldar or Eldare de Corstorfin was burgess of Edinburgh in 1423
    (LSC., p. 227; Egidii, p. 44).
  The surname is also recorded in Aberdeen in 1447 (CRA., p. 15).
  " John Elder, a renegade Scot, urged Henry VIII ('Bagcheeks')
to invade Scotland, assuring him of the
support of the Highland Clans (Coll., p. 23-32).
